Christmas 2013: COLOR

Trend Worlds

Precious Jungle

Precious Jungle

Over-the-top, extravagant and ostentatious
The title of this trend speaks for itself and underlines its opulent character: Precious Jungle combines the elegant and expensive with the cool and regal colours of the jungle. Precious stones and shimmering birds of paradise stand out like blossoms against a background palette of greens and blues. Elegant gold adds additional warmth. Materials are dominated by strong ornamentation and expensive designs. Choice fabrics such as velvet, silk and brocade are opulently embroidered or decoratively adorned. The theme offers a lot of room for inspiration. The range of relevant products is appropriately varied: glass ornaments, feather or plant motifs, heavy Christmas baubles decorated with gold, ornately decorated leaves in flower arrangements.

Fantasy Forest

Fantasy Forest

Fanciful, humorous and modern
This playfully romantic style breaks the classic mould. It puts traditional fairy-tale motifs and Christmas reds and greens in a young and modern context. The enchanted forest of Fairyland is presented in a full, violent red and set against the animals and forest figures dipped in green paint. Natural materials such as pine cones or acorns are painted silver and lend an abstract, ethereal effect. Lighter shades give products an elegant, discreet look: finely patterned glass and porcelain lend a gentle, feminine touch. Woollen fabrics and felts appear playful with coloured lace, ribbons and trimmings. This humorous and fashion-conscious treatment of tradition and familiar festive items offers a new perspective on traditional romantic motifs and constitutes what is special about this imaginative trend.

Glowing Desert

Glowing Desert

Full of contrast, expressive and elegant
Glowing Desert reflects the power and beauty of contrast. The wide open spaces of the desert with its desiccated land, cracked by the heat of the sun, is contrasted with a breathtaking colour palette. The combination of natural, warm shades, such as ochre and sand, with purple and an intense coral provides strong accents. A complement of sparkling and shiny metallic colours, set against the coarse desert backdrop, is reminiscent of a fata-morgana effect. This aspect is particularly in evidence in the range of floral products: dried wood, thistles, bleached stone ware and ceramics combine with ribbons of natural silk or linen to give a restrained rural effect. Elegant glassware with schlieren effects, iridescent Christmas baubles and shiny candles all go to create vibrant and exciting contrasts.

Gracious Coast

Gracious Coast

Light, feminine and delicate
This is a sappy, purist style developed with a gentle femininity. Modern pastel shades are contrasted with black, anthracite and ecru. The reduced, sculptural shapes create a 50s feel, structures are fluid and clean, and surfaces are finely worked. Traditional features are put in a modern context and force a conscious clash. Thus, for example, historical scenes on copper engravings from the 17th and 18th centuries find themselves next to modern, photographically accurate patterns. There is a great deal of variety in the range of products: fine fabrics and textiles with delicate structures and needlework create a feminine touch. There are gentle modulations of transparent and delicately coloured glass. High-quality ornaments with enamel and mother-of-pearl effects bring grace and lightness. The simultaneous combination of playful decoration and reductionist simplicity is what lends Gracious Coast its special character.

Trends at the Fair

Christmas trends 2013 / 2014

Alongside the candle - creator of romantic mood par excellence - the hand-blown glass bauble remains the leading decorative element at Christmas time, with surface designs becoming ever more elaborate and imaginative. Encrusted with the most varied glittering embellishments, imprinted or misted snow-white, they are the jewels on every Christmas tree. But they can also happily be hung on neutral tree sprigs so that they stay with us well beyond the festivities right up until the end of the year.

Animals, Materials, Angels, Shapes, Nativities
The most popular decorative animals to be added to the traditional stylistic features are owls and stags. The variety of materials ranges all the way from bronze and velvet, fur and feather, to fabric and felt. Particularly popular are, moreover, angels, conical shapes, hearts and nativity figures.

Nature, Colors, and Style
Nature remains the number one source of inspiration for all decoration. Artificial flowers and Christmas trees are becoming more and more realistic both in the way they look and the way they feel. The proportion of laborious handwork in them is enormous. The dominant colours are white and silver – a far cry from the traditional Christmas red. Berries enjoy a pastel colour spectrum ranging from a light rosé color to dark purple, with earthy and green tones, and create a background mood that exudes good cheer.

+++Messe Frankfurt
Messe Frankfurt is Germany’s largest trade fair organiser. The Messe Frankfurt Group has a global network of 29 subsidiaries, five branch offices and 48 international Sales Partners, giving it a presence for its customers in more than 150 countries. Events “made by Messe Frankfurt” take place at more than 30 locations around the globe.

Christmas Design Trends 2013

Winter ice-crystal patterns on ribbons and paper or in the shape of the granulate set the stage in blue-and-white. Transparent glass balls harmonise with finely-chiselled stars framed by the glittering sparkle of glass berries in pale silver-grey tones, while mint and turquoise add highlights to a scene full of lightness and clarity. If its the silvery sheen of the patterns on the serviettes or wax candles all in snowy white, this is winter at its brilliant best!

Spicy & Orange

The gold of the stars, glittering granulate and festive glass ornaments melt together with the burnt orange and coppery brown of the candles. Showy ornamental patterns decorate wrapping paper, serviettes and vases. Gold trimmings and engravings adorn ribbons and shimmering fabrics or structured textiles. Candlelight is reflected in metallic surfaces, both matte and shiny. In the realm of the senses we are captivated by the sensual warmth and opulence!

Santa's Home

Originality and optimism are expressed in the simple mix of deep greens and reds in stripes and checks. Traditional craft design and materials inspired by nature reflect the expanse and freedom of the Scottish Highlands with a certain longing. The individual parts are as reduced or archaic as the whole is fresh and sophisticated; altogether this look stirs up a yearning for dearly held traditions and a touch of comfort.

Fairytale Forest

Little treasures found in the forest, such as pinecones, acorns and toadstools, made into the finest glass ornaments and painted in deep, warm colours like rust, orange and saffron yellow are associated with mysterious moments. Animals from the woods, owls and smaller birds or stags and deer, all paint a fairytale scene on serviettes and textiles. Showy floral patterns decorate gift-wrapping paper, the dull sheen of glass decorations in moss green or bronze sport golden trim, and candles have riffled structures or shapes borrowed from Mother Nature.

Blue Chalet

Earthy browns and fresh, cool shades of blue are characteristic of classic chalet style. Knitted patterns inspired by Nordic traditions on festive candles, shiny Christmas ornaments, serviettes and gift-wrapping paper are reminiscent of traditional handicrafts. Figures from the wintry countryside, such as reindeer, owl or bear, alongside stylised Christmas tree accessories and checked and gaily decorated ribbons, bring the popular rough charm of the north into our homes.
